Greetings from Montana, all!!
Rain is the story of the day(s) here since my Friday arrival—chilly mornings (in the low 40’s) rising all the way into the upper 50’s--accompanied by San Francisco style dampness that, at the end of the day, lets you know that, indeed, it IS damp out there. Our week’s forecast is for intermittent more of the same with partly cloudy skies forecast for Group One’s arrival day next Saturday (yikes!!) and a 50% chance of rain for our first day of fishing, Father’s Day. So, Ones, as you do your final packing, put in another layer and be sure that your have a full rain suit in your gear bag.
Dampness never stopped a great party, however, and take a look at the attached (damp!) shots of your newly painted Extravaganza 2012 Headquarters that is now fully ready for your impending arrivals. Eric the Landscaper is in the final steps of “tuning up the garden” (as he is wont to say) and the rivers are beginning to shape up into first class fishing style for each of our groups. Somewhat humorously (kinda), over this weekend I received an email from Commander Cliff asking if we would be trekking with him over the Continental Divide again this year. Pleasantly, I informed him “no” but let him know that he will be our coach commander for the Jack Hanna Concert on June 29th (where we are chartering a bus to take us to/fro Flathead Lake) and I have invited him to join us for dinner a night or two. CC just let me know that he WILL be joining the Ones and Twos for an evening’s repast, but will miss Dem Threes. It will be good to have the Commander back in our extravagant midst!
As to the rivers, the constant rain has finally taken it toll on the riparian susceptible Blackfoot River, which is currently not fishable. In fact, it is flowing the color of that finely frothed mocha coffee I described a few dozen emails ago and is pouring its sediment-filled waters into the Clark Fork, now making the Bitterroot and its tributaries our primary targets for the Wonderful Ones.
I am now resident here in MT for the duration, gang—check that Camp List, pack up for the adventure and be sure to add your guide gag gift and Hawaiian shirt for your first day’s usage!!
Best to all from the scene of it all,
Rock Creek Ron
